Murata Manufacturing has officially added its NFE series chip EMIFIL LC composite filters to its discontinuation plan. According to the official notice, the last order date for the series is September 30, 2027, with the final shipment date set for March 31, 2028. Of greater concern to the industry, multiple sources indicate that Murata will not offer a direct replacement for the series, leaving design teams that rely on it for power line EMI suppression to find alternatives or redesign independently.
Murata’s official product page now clearly marks the NFE series status as “To Be Discontinued” (生産中止予定). Positioned as power line filters, the series employs a combined feedthrough capacitor and ferrite bead structure, offering high-current capability and excellent high-frequency characteristics.
According to the official product discontinuation notice issued by Murata through distributors, the key dates are as follows:
| Item | Deadline |
| Customer written confirmation | September 30, 2027 |
| Last Time Buy (LTB) | September 30, 2027 |
| Last Time Delivery (LTD) | March 31, 2028 |
The notice also states that if customers do not respond in writing by the confirmation deadline, Murata will deem the entire contents of the discontinuation notice accepted. Data from multiple distributor platforms corroborate this timeline, showing that the lifecycle status of several NFE part numbers has been updated to EOL (End of Life), with LTB and LTD dates consistent with the official notice.
Reason for Discontinuation: Declining Orders and Aging Equipment
Murata’s stated reasons for the discontinuation are concise and direct: declining orders and deteriorating production efficiency. Specifically, some production equipment has aged and is difficult to replace, further exacerbating the decline in production efficiency. This statement is consistent with Murata’s overall strategy in recent years toward mature product lines—shifting resources toward higher-value-added, high-demand products.
Key Risk: No Direct Replacement Officially Confirmed
Unlike typical product iterations, the NFE series discontinuation is not a “new model replaces old model” upgrade. Users on the electronics engineering forum EEVblog, citing confirmation from Murata, report that there will be no replacement products for the BNX and NFE series EMI filters. This means manufacturers currently using the NFE series for power line noise suppression in their designs cannot expect Murata to provide a same-series or pin-to-pin compatible replacement part number.
Industry Reaction and Subsequent Impact
A discussion thread on the EEVblog forum titled “Let the Murata purge begin” reflects the frustration of some engineers over the discontinuation. The poster listed specific part numbers being sought for replacement, including NFE31PTxx, NFE61HTxx, and BNX026xx series, noting that these EMI filters are “used in many projects.”
From a broader perspective, the NFE series discontinuation continues Murata’s product line streamlining strategy. Murata has previously conducted similar large-scale discontinuation cleanups of product lines such as piezoelectric transducers. For procurement and design teams, time is limited. The priority is to complete evaluation and validation of alternative solutions before the last order window closes in September 2027. They should also establish necessary safety stock before the final shipment deadline.
In the solution adjustment process triggered by the NFE series discontinuation, partners with relevant experience can play an important role. LCA has extensive project experience in EMI filtering and power line noise suppression, and is familiar with the application characteristics of such LC composite filters across different circuit topologies and operating conditions. LCA can assist customers in identifying affected part numbers and evaluating constraints of existing designs. LCA also provides support for the selection, validation, and volume production introduction of transition solutions.
